This need to be seen as helpless, incapable, and weak I will never understand of women.

This innate need to be instructed, ordered, and directed, especially in 2023 when affairs of the world are gradually bending to girl power. Where seats are being vacated for women to come in and steer giant ships. At a time when hard data proves women-led nations are performing significantly better than their counterparts, our nemesis over here is this gaping need in our hearts to have our requests validated and actions approved by adults like ourselves and you know, it just blows my mind. Every time, my head goes kaboom. I read comment after comment and my head spins at the unlearning daughters and granddaughters of these women will be subjected to.

On one hand, we are advocating a world where our daughters concern themselves with everything but if they are unequal with their brothers, and on the other hand, we have mothers who have refused to come out of the cage or simply, release themselves.

Chief Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie — Odeluwa 1 of Abba

I imagine how the training would be — a group of handicapped supervisors with daring goals to raise wide-eyed replicas. I am talking about current mothers who hope to raise a thousand more Okonjo Iwealas and hundreds of Odeluwas comfortable with chains and will bite anyone who dares to rattle the cage.

We say we want more women as heads of industry, on boards of organizations, and importantly in politics but somehow, our women want to be rescued at every turn, spoon-fed, and told what to do first.

No be so o. Walai, no be so we go take change the world. Umu Nwaanyi, no be so we plan am.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
